Kiwi Lane Designs DT Doodles #15

April 15, 2013 by Jen Budge

I love 4th of July and even though it’s still a few months away this Doodlebug Stars & Stripes Collection really got me in the mood of parades, picnics, & of course fireworks!!!Image 1I love that Doodlebug has their Essentials Kits which give you ribbon, rhinestones, and other goodies inside.  Made putting together my layout a breeze b/c I didn’t need anything outside of my KLD Templates and this kit.  Because I primarily am a 2-page maker I also picked up another Doodlebug Stars & Stripes Paper Pack so that I had two of each patterned paper to work with.

ImageHere’s a close up of the papers included in this kit. It’s a great collection to add for all of your 4th of July photos this year!!!

I LOVE working with my D.T. Sets to visualize & make all of the layouts I create.  I hope the below sketch and my actual layout give you inspiration to come up with your own creation for this weeks DT Doodles #15.

Chestnut Drive (1A, 1B, 2A, & 2B)
Strip Set (1/2″)
Celebrate (3, 4, & 6)
Tiny Floral (1T)
Tiny Shapes (3T)

I love using my Celebrate Accessory Set.  Above is a closeup of #4 from the Celebrate Set which was the pinwheel. It is fun to use flat but I love to fold in the outside corners to the center in order to create this 3D pinwheel which allows you to see both sides of this fun 2-sided paper.  I used one of the jewels from my Stars & Stripes Collection- Essentials Kit to add to the center of my pinwheel.

I loved using my pinwheels down the side in between the 3 photos I had of my son.

I used the Cone template (#6) from my Celebrate Accessory Set for these flags off the side of my photo. I had planned on using them as little journaling spots but ended up loving the patterns I chose and didn’t want to cover them up so I left it the way it was.

Here’s a close up of the collage of templates and card stock sticker pieces (that were included in my Doodlebug Essentials Kit) that I used on my layout.

I love the layout.I love red, white and blue themed paper.I could use it year round.I also love tht you used black and white photos.

    • Thanks. I’m a big fan of RED, WHITE, & BLUE as well. As far as the B/W photos I tend to print them out either that way or in Sepia if they’re not really going that well with the paper I’m working with. 🙂

    Hi Jen,

I’ve noticed that all the Budge ladies include depth in several of their designs. I love the look of that, however all of my pages end up in a scrapbook, which defeats the purpose of that and would flatten any design I added depth to. My scrapbooks are thick and heavy. So, I’m wondering if you do something different with your pages or you don’t worry about the designs getting flat. What are your thoughts? Thank you!
