So I had been wanting to complete this project so long ago but just never did until now. I’m so happy with how it turned out. So here’s the story. I was trying to come up with a creative way to spell out my sons name in his room. Last Summer I was out garage selling and came across a sale that had a FREE box on the driveway… I had to go see what was inside and there were these old records you see below. They were super scratched up so I assumed they weren’t working but I thought to myself, “WHAT COULD I DO WITH THOSE?” A banner soon came to mind and so for the last year I’ve held onto them until now…
I started off by grabbing out my Ring DT Set. The #4 fit perfectly on the record but I ended up using #1 & #3 because I wanted some of the record to show. I grabbed my little paper piercer tool after I had traced my Rings so I had a place to get my scissors in to cut out the center.
Here’s a little sample showing how I framed my records by laying out some of my D.T. Sets to see what my project was going to look like.
You might be asking how I came up with the letters on my records well here’s what I did. You know when you buy letters whether they be chipboard or paper you usually punch them out and keep the letters and then throw away the outside right? Well you might find yourself hanging onto some of those thrown away parts now. Below shows photos of how I made my letters…
I took a photo of the cut out Chipboard letters but for this project I actually went with the paper letter cutouts. I punched out the letters I needed. In this case the N-O-A-H and then traced them on the paper I wanted to use to spell out my sons name. After cutting them out I placed them on my records along with my Designer Templates to visualize my project. The letters turned out great. (of course I inked everything before adhering anything down.
Before I strung up my letters I grabbed my We Are Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile which worked PERFECT for punching holes thru my records. I then added some eyelets and strung up my letters to hang in my sons room.
Hope you enjoyed my little project. And don’t forget for the month of May Kiwi Lane Designs is featuring the following sets: Aspen, Adventure, & Playtime. You can find these all available in the KLD Shop marked down 10% for the whole month of May.
